1. What is the difference between The Early College and Dual Credit?
| The Early College: - Early College students enroll in college courses at the Lone Star College-Kingwood campus
- Early College students should not enroll in more than 15 semester credit hours per semester. For example, two courses taught as dual credit at the high school and three courses taught at the college.
- Early College includes dual credit and college courses
- Early College will be recognized at their high school graduation and wear an Early College graduation cord.
- Early College students will attend courses with college students.
- Early College students can become "Core Curriculum Complete" (completing 42 semester hours of academic core courses as defined in the Catalog) or earn an associate degree before high school graduation

| Dual Credit: - Dual Credit courses are generally taught on the high school campus by high school faculty.
- Dual Credit students receive a 50% discount on in-district tuition only
- Dual Credit courses satisfy high school graduation requirements and earn college semester credit hours.

2. Will my Early College credits transfer?
Yes. Most courses will transfer to senior universities in the State of Texas. If you are Core Curriculum Complete (have completed 42 semester hours of academic core courses as defined in the Catalog), all public colleges and universities in Texas must accept the full core. If you intend to transfer to a private or an out-of-state university, contact the private or out-of-state university admissions department and ask if your Lone Star College System credits transfer.
3. If I complete the Core Curriculum at Lone Star College-Kingwood, will it fully transfer to a 4-year college or university?
Yes. All Texas public colleges and universities are required to have a Core Curriculum as a part of their Baccalaureate Degree. The law requires that the Core Curriculum transfer to any Lone Star College System public college or university.4. What are the benefits of The Early College?

5. Can I qualify for the Texas Early High School Graduation Scholarship Program through The Early College?
Yes. A high school student who graduates with 30 or more college semester credit hours may be eligible for a
$1,000 scholarship to any state funded college or university.

10. Will workforce classes be included in The Early College?
No. The Core Curriculum does not include workforce education courses.11. Do you have to take a dual credit class at the high school if it is offered there?
Work with your high school counselor to identify dual credit courses offered on the high school campus.12. How do I show proof of “college readiness”?
Simply attach a photocopy of standardized test scores from SAT, ACT, THEA, ASSET or COMPASS to The Early College application.If a student's already in dual credit are they qualified for The Early College
Yes14. Will incoming juniors have first priority?
Yes. Juniors will have first priority over seniors since students that enter The Early College as a junior will have the opportunity to complete the "core curriculum". Seniors will, however, be accepted into The Early College.15. Are dual credit classes offered at Lone Star College-Kingwood also given the 50% tuition discount?
Yes16. Can you take English 1301 at the college instead of the high school?
Yes, but please ask your high school counselor for approval.17. Can Early College students enroll in summer classes at Lone Star College-Kingwood?
Qualified students can take courses at the college during the summer. Please consult with your high school counselor for academic advice.18. When should a student take an assessment test?
Contact your high school counselor to determine testing dates exams (SAT, ACT, THEA, etc.) and the expected time for scores to be returned. Of course, the high school and the college both offer the local placement test called ASSET and scores are typically returned in 3-5 days. Early College applicants must have proof of "college readiness by the application deadline.
19. Can an Early College student take the ASSET on the high school campus?

20. When is the application due?
Submit your completed application to your high school counselor. Applications are typically due mid-July, but check with your high school counsel for the specific date.21. What is the application process?
- Complete the Early College application form
- Obtain parent or guardian signature
- Attach standardized test scores to the application form
- Submit the completed application to your high school counselor by the due date
- The college will notify all applicants of their admission status
- All Early College students and parents must attend an Early College Orientation prior to the beginning of the Fall semester.
