Why do I have to take an assessment test?
Lone Star College System requires all first-time students to show that they are ready for college-level coursework. This is because we want to make sure that you have the math, reading, and/or writing skills to do well.
To determine your level of college-readiness, you will be asked to take an assessment or placement test. In the Lone Star College System Bridge Partnership, we use the COMPASS or ASSET assessments, however, students also have the option of showing they are college-ready with SAT, ACT scores, or scores from placement tests such as ACCUPLACER.
If you test below college-ready, the Bridge Partnership offers a number of programs, services and courses to help you improve your reading, writing, or math skills.
The links below will give you more information on cut scores for the various placement tests as well as providing additional information on the five assessment centers in the college district.
