Health Occupations at Lone Star College-Kingwood
Lone Star College-Kingwood offers several healthcare programs including:
Nurse Aide
Nurse aides help care for patients. They perform routine tasks under the supervision of nursing and medical staff. Specific tasks vary, with aides handling many aspects of a patient’s care. The nurse aide program consists of 64 classroom hours and 24 clinical hours.
Dental Assisting
Dental assistants work closely with, and under the supervision of, dentists. Assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. The Dental Assisting Program is a 316 hour program consisting of 2 lecture courses (128 hour each) of classroom instruction and 60 hours of clinical training. CPR is required. If you have a current CPR card, please make a copy and bring it to registration.
Phlebotomy
Phlebotomy is the act of drawing blood either for testing or transfusion. The phlebotomist helps to reduce the workload of doctors and nurses by focusing exclusively on blood collection, particularly in hospitals and testing centers. The Phlebotomy Program consists of 96 hours of classroom instruction and 120 hours of clinical training.

Copy of Immunization records to include:
• Hepatitis B Vaccine (series of 3)
• MMR (proof of 2 doses of measles and 1 dose of mumps if born on or after January 1, 1957 and 1 dose of rubella)
• Tetanus-Diphtheria toxoid (TD) within the last ten years
• Varicella Vaccine (2 doses)
• Negative Tuberculosis Test
Copy of Drivers License and Social Security Card (names must match)
Copy of recent CPR card (if applicable)

In order to register, you must do so in person in the Continuing Education Office (Classroom Building A) room 107. You will need to bring a copy of your immunization records and a current TB test and all other required information.
If you are interested in financial aid, please complete the FAFSA form (FAFSA.gov) and bring a copy of the pin number with you to register. You will be required to put a certain portion down and take a copy of the registration form/payment to our financial aid office to see if you qualify. If you do not qualify, you are responsible for the remainder of the fee.
Texas Law (25 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) 97.63 and 97.64) requires that all students enrolled in health related courses, which will involve direct patient contact in medical or dental care facilities be immunized against measles, rubella, mumps, diptheria, tetanus and hepatits B. Students must submit a statement indicating the month and year of each immunization when registering for classes. All immunization requirements must be met prior to registration.
Admission to the Health Occupations programs through Lone Star College-Kingwood does not guarantee eligibility for certification by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Criminal background checks are a part of the screening process conducted by the Texas Department of State Health Services. As a result, some candidates may be ineligible for certification. Clinical facilities will require students to successfully pass a background check. Candidates with concerns about their background in this regard should contact the Texas Department of State Health Services in Austin with specific concerns. Lone Star College System personnel are unable to make any determinations as to a potential candidate's eligibilty.
