GED Test Requirements

Minimum Test Score on TABE A or D (Reading-567, Math-566, Language-560) or

Minimum Test Score on GED Official Practice Test - 460 or

Minimum Test Score on ASVAB Test - 50 AFQT

  • Texas Education Agency (TEA) regulations as of January 2007 state that any student wishing to take the GED test must first take either the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) or the Official Practice Test for the GED (OPT), or the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) and meet certain criteria. Lone Star College-Kingwood offers the TABE during the free 3 day orientation. Those wishing to register for the GED Test must present the above mentioned test scores. GED testing registration is done in person in the Continuing Education Office (CLA 107). Call 281.312.1447 for more information.

    GED Orientation and Assessment

    Lone Star College System-Kingwood and Region VI offer a free 3 day GED orientation and assessment. This orientation introduces students to the expectations of the class, their responsibilities and general rules of participation. Students are given the TABE and OPT tests, which are used to assess skills and to determine placement. Under the TEA requirements, students wishing to take the GED test must take and exceed minimum scores (see above) on the TABE and/or OPT. For further information Call 281.312.1447.

    Students interested in GED Prep courses must attend a three day orientation. Dates for Spring 2008 are as follows:

    GED Test (Full) $80

    The General Education Development (GED) tests are an adult education service and cannot be used to complete high school before age 17. The passing of the GED test enables a person to earn a certificate issued by the Texas Education Agency. The fee includes the cost of the certificate. A photograph ID card (a valid Texas Driver’s License or Texas ID Card) is required for registration and test admission. A person must register for the test in person. A person must be at least 17 years old to take the test. One change of date is allowed at no charge if made before the original test date. No refund or rescheduling of dates is granted if not approved before the original test date. All 17 year olds must have a completed parental permission form and be officially withdrawn from school.

    GED Test (Partial)

    Test Fee for 1 or 2 sections of the test $30

    Test Fee for 3 or more sections of the test $80

    The GED Test (Partial) is available to those individuals who have taken the Full GED Test, but need to retake 1 or more sections because of low test scores. In order to re-test, individuals must meet either of the following requirements: 6 month waiting period between tests or provide a letter signed by a certified teacher (on school or program letterhead, including contact information) stating the student is able to re-test.
