Tutoring

The Learning Center has regularly scheduled tutoring by Lone Star College-Kingwood faculty in reading, writing, math, and chemistry. Tutoring is also available in Spanish, economics, ESL, accounting, anatomy and physiology, American Sign Language, physics, and nursing.

Appointments can be made by phone or by visiting SFA 200. Free tutoring is a service for all Lone Star College System students. English Tutors assist students with writing assignments and guide students preparing for the GED or THEA tests. Writing tutors do not edit papers, but they help students understand their areas of weakness and develop strategies to improve their writing styles.

The English tutors also help students with reading comprehension and study skills, as well as note and test taking skills. Students enrolled in academic courses (history, psychology, sociology, or science) who need help comprehending the textbook material are able to work with the tutors to gain better understanding.

Assistance is also available for students who need help with personal correspondence. Math Tutoring is available at all levels. Appointments are strongly encouraged since the appointment schedule fills up quickly. Students may call (281) 312 1439 to schedule a 30 minute appointment for the following week.

Chemistry/Physics Tutoring is available. Schedules are set each semester. Supplemental Instruction (peer facilitation) provides regularly scheduled, outof class study/review sessions for all students in designated courses. Weekly review sessions help students develop improved learning strategies and a better understanding of the course content. Regular attendance at SI sessions generally leads to greater success and a higher grade in the course.

Online Tutoring is available through an online CHAT service when the Lone Star College-Kingwood Learning Center is open. All students can access the CHAT line through the Learning Center site on the Lone Star College System webpage. Students may work online with a live tutor. When the Learning Center is closed, students may submit an essay or questions for a tutor's review and response. A tutor response should be available within 48 hours.
