Catch of the Month - September 2006
Ursula Sledge

I'd like to nominate Ursula Sledge. She goes beyond her responsibilities as an advisor when working with ESL students as well as non-ESL students. Often she does not even take a break for lunch when there are students waiting to see an advisor in the hallway. She walks out of her office and ask students how she can help them. She stays in her office beyond her scheduled hours to help students. Besides her work ethics, she is a great collaborator. She tries to learn about the different programs at the college, so she can advise more effectively. Also, while following the college policies, she is flexible enough to accommodate the students with particular problems. She always has a small on her face, especially when students walk into her office. Because of her concerns for students and her good heart, she feels sad when students are sad and feels happy when they're happy. In short, she's the greatest advisor I've ever seen anywhere.

I would like to nominate Ursula Sledge from Student Services. I watch her daily deal with her International students and am constantly amazed at her patience and guidance for them. She worked many hours overtime (as well as many others within this department) during peak rush; however there was never a time where she lost her smile and dedication to those students she was assisting. She is a valuable asset to the college, her department, and the students she serves. I believe that if all employees were as dedicated and as customer-service oriented as Ursula is, our students would never leave!! This is a TRUE example of what the FISH philosophy is all about – going above and beyond your normal work expectations. Ursula is phenomenal and should be recognized for her dedication to the college and the students she serves.
